Biotechnology is technology that utilizes biological systems, living organisms or parts of this to develop or create different products. The wide concept of "biotechnology" encompasses a good range of procedures for modifying living organisms consistent with human purposes, going back to domestication of animals, cultivation of the plants, and "improvements" to those through breeding programs that employ artificial selection and hybridization. Modern usage also includes gene-splicing also as cell and tissue culture technologies.
